IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS...THAT MATTER

"Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." - Abraham Lincoln

Our Prophet and President of our church, President Gordon B. Hinckley has passed away. 97 years old. I feel so much JOY that he is reunited with his sweet wife. I have so much adoration for these two wonderful people.
My children, even my 3 year old, know him by his voice. He will be missed but we will keep his counsel alive in our home. He has had a great impact on our little family. What a sweet man.

"All those years together have only heightened their devotion to each other. A couple of years ago, when somebody asked President Hinckley what he would wish for his wife, he said, "That we might live together for as long as the Lord wills and that when the time comes for us to move on, that we might go together or very close together, without one lingering a long time after the other. We've lived together for a long time. I hope we'll continue to move on together."
Recently, while standing at the pulpit together in a church area conference, President Hinckley discussed the years they had been together and began to weep.
"Has it been that bad?" said Marjorie."

That was from this story. It is a sweet look at their life together.

I am sad that we won't hear his humor and wonderful words come April or any other time but I am so grateful to have had such an amazing man as our prophet and exemplar. President and Sister Hinckley have always been so down to earth. Wonderful people with a wonderful calling in life.
The church is the same. I believe in it with all my heart and mind. I look forward to our next Prophet and loving him the way I have loved President Hinckley.
I KNOW The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true gospel from it's very core to all it teaches and offers. I believe in this gospel and live it because it teaches me and my family to be happy. Who wouldn't want that?! That reason alone is enough to live it. I am so very grateful for inspired leaders. I love conference because I love to hear what the new "hot topic" is meaning what I need to work on to better myself.
I love and will always remember President Hinckleys reminder to always "try a little harder, to be a little better."
He will be missed but I am so grateful he is with his darling companion.

Happy Birthday Kristi!!

I just wanted to send a shout out to Kristi. My beautiful sister-in-law! Her birthday was on the 11th so I'm late. But I'm late on everything so it's okay....right?!

What have I learned from Kristi?

Her blog is titled "Bloom Where You're Planted"

I think it is very fitting for her. That is exactly what she does. Where her life takes her and what life dishes out, she makes the best of it. She is a wonderful mother, a great homemaker, and a good wife.
I would love to take a peek inside her cookbooks. She is an awesome cook and loves a good recipe.
She finds JOY in everything and laughs a lot. I love it. She says it the way it is. She took up knitting and quilting and has beautiful pieces to show for it. She is goofy and knows how to have fun.
I am so glad I gained you as a sister, Kristi. I hope you have a great year.

Ticket to Ride

Karey, I hope you don't mind that I stole these pictures from your blog.
John and Karey were talking last night and discovered they both have a love for internet Ticket to Ride so John joined Karey who was already playing and they played three games.
Before they got started, John was telling Karey how he has figured out the secret to winning and he wins almost every time. Three losses to Karey later, he shared his secret with her. Sorry John. Good job Karey!!!

John's 33rd year in a nutshell. Happy Birthday!

I love that he has marshmallow on his chin and lip.

I LOVE when he comes home from China.

I love that he is a true blue cougar.

I love that he will drive long distances off the path to see something beautiful. I love that he wants our children to see the world.

I love that he loves this tabernacle in Paris, ID.

He loves a good toasted marshmallow and teaches us the art of roasting.
He teaches the kids to honor and respect their mom. Thank you for that!

He'll stick around a while so the kids can see what happens when a train runs over a coin.
Again....a project. Putting together a shed in the back yard.

I love that our children find comfort with him.

I love that he is the father of all these boys.

I love this guy!!!

I love that he loves MY family and enjoys being with them.

He works hard to make the kids happy even when he won't be around to enjoy the outcome....pine wood derby...again in China.

I love that he brought these home from China for John and thought they were cool.

He takes time to do the small things with the kids.

He has unbelievable patience....like when Sam got locked in the car in the middle of nowhere in Heber. I love that we could laugh it off.

He loves golf.

And his pebble beach hat while standing in front of pebble beach.

He likes to entertain a crowd.

He honors his priesthood and teaches his children the right way to live.

He loves his family.

He likes a good firework show.

He likes a good thrill.
And wants his kids to have a good thrill.

He'll ask where the shark petting pool is just so the rest of us can get a good laugh.
He'll keep on going even when he is exhausted.
Another project...closet doors.

He likes a clean car.
But especially....clean wheels.

He's a handsome devil!

He plays a mean game of Wiffle ball.

He loves his job. Thanks to Nairn, he won the name the cafeteria at work contest.
His children think he is so cool and during the open house at work, he was told by many that their kids thought his desk was the coolest. He is like his dad and loves a gadget.

He misses out on great things to pay the bills. He was in China during this Itty Bitty Bountiful City that Lisa put on.
He is idolized by his children. He makes them proud.

He loves trains and history and loves to "see" great things.

He loves me like I'm the only person he has to love. He is teaching his boys how to be an amazing husband.

He LOVES a random project/experiment. Here he has made his own HDTV receiver by watching and following a video on YouTube.

He'll redo projects just to make things a little nicer.

He will entertain himself, his children, and the neighbors.

He teaches us about life and living. About death and eternal life. He teaches us to be sympathetic and compassionate. He teaches us that "every soul is great in the sight of God".

He LOVES a good hot dog.
He wants his children to experience happiness with others. And get them excited for their futures.

He loves to spend time with his family.

He enjoys a good waterfall, a beautiful sunset, a great view.

He is just one of the kids at Discovery Gateway and joins in the fun with them.

He gets up early, even on Father's Day, to fulfill his callings.

Even when he is in extreme pain, he doesn't want to miss out on a moment with the family. (At the fireworks at Mueller Park....Back pain, which we have now discovered was gall stones.)
He leads his children in righteousness and loves them to pieces.

He'll let the kids do dangerous (but fun)things just because it's fun and they'll like it.

He'll spend hours preparing for a presentation for the kids classes at school and loves every minute of it.(and if he doesn't, he'll pretend he does.

He teaches his kids to work hard and works with them.....but knows how to have a good time with them...and by himself as you can see.

He'll forgo his relaxation to make it fun for the kids.

He loves to torment the dog but is the best "master" I've ever seen. I love when he barks at the dog "barf, barf". It always makes me laugh.

He works hard and always finishes a project he gets started. Here he has just demolished our bathroom and now has completely remodeled it.

He is an avid sports fan. He is on his blackberry, online, watching television, listening to the radio, looking in the paper, or on the phone with someone to look at, read, or talk about a game, a score, a player...

He loved his boat and was sad to see it go.

I love that he loves my mom like she were his own mom.

I love this man with all my heart. I love to see him walk in the door. I hate to see him leave. If he is in the house, we love to be together. I love that he is a furnace at night and keeps me warm. I love that I want to be better for him. I love that he treats me like no one ever has before. I love that he knows what is right and strives to do what is right. I love that when I have a lesson to teach my children, I can always use their dad as a good example.

I love that I get to spend the rest of my life and eternity with this man! I love you honey buns.
